October 19, 2000 ~ Phantom Winds
I am such a ditz. *laugh* All evening I've been sitting here thinking that it is very windy outside. In actuality, however, it is not windy at all. The CD-ROM drive has been whirring off and on all night, and it doesn't normally do that, so I automatically assumed that the whooshing noise was wind. *lol* Oh well. It still sounds cool.
I am feeling very loved. I got two guestbook entries today! Whoohoo! The guestbook hasn't been working quite right, however. *grumble*
I am feeling guilty, because I haven't read a single thing since I started working this week. I had planned to read all of Les Miserables this week, due to that fact that I won't possibly have time to read it during classes, even though I have to have it read for a class. I don't know what it is, but when I come home at night, tired and sore, the last thing I want to do is read. Normally, reading would be the activity that I want most to do when I come home and relax.
Speaking of reading... I emailed my mother an update of how my life is going the other day, and I listed for her what I have read so far this semester. I had know idea just how much it was! The list was huge! I'll include it here for all of you, just so you can get an idea.
The Communist Manifesto and about 100 pages of other Marx works
Mother Courage (Brecht)
Animal Farm (Orwell)
Candide (Voltaire) (TWICE!!)
The Symposium (Plato) (TWICE!!)
Republic (Plato)
Excerpts from The Human Condition (Arendt)
Selections from Enlightenment Thought (Pope, Bacon, Newton, Rousseau, etc.)
The Nichamachian Ethics (Aristotle)
Selected Writings of Martin Luther (about 200 pgs)
Selected Writings of Montaigne (about 200 pgs)
New Atlantis (Bacon)
Utopia (Thomas More)
Confessions (St. Augustine)
Fear and Trembling (Kierkegaard)
Paradise Lost (Milton) and about 100 pages of other Milton
The Book of Job and some of Genesis (Bible)
Elliot's Wasteland and other selected poems
Selections from Yeats
Selections from The Modern Age Reader...
I am currently in the middle of the unabridged Les Miserables, as I mentioned before, as well as a few others. Oy! What a load!
Should I start a notify list for this site? Would anyone even use it anyway? Who's out there, raise your hands!
