May 30, 2001 ~ I Meet the Local Bears

Morgan and I rounded a bend in Dogwood trail on our jog this morning and heard something make a crashing noise behind a tree about ten feet off the trail. Something large, black, and furry started running away from us, with something small, black, and furry running along beside it.

We cautiously continued to move along the trail, which luckily went in the opposite direction of the two bears, all the while watching them over our shoulders. They stopped about a hundred feet away, and the mother bear watched us as the cub ran around and shook himself in a hyper manner.

The cub was very, very cute.

It was an interesting start to the day.
