October 26, 2001 ~ Strange Bumps and Sated Laughter

I've got bumps.

They're small red bumps, and they itch, and they're definitely not pimples. There are five of them across my stomach. They itch much more than a mosquito bite, but they are much smaller. They don't look like any bug, flea, or spider bite that I have ever seen.

They are making me slightly paranoid, only because I don't know what they are and they are on my body and they are not bug bites or pimples.

They look a little like the rashes I got when I was five the first time I took Penicillin (and found out that I was allergic to it). But that, obviously, was a very long time ago, so I don't remember very clearly.

Maybe this is an allergy? I hope so. But to what?

Morgan and I are regulars at the Dragon, the Oriental restaurant down the road, and the owners are opening a new restaurant in town called Jae's, which will serve only vegan, gourmet, organic food. They invited us, along with several other friends, to the pre-grand opening dry run last night.

Imagine going to a really nice, expensive restaurant where everything is free, and the waitress urges you to order as much as you want.

The food was amazing. I had a green roll, potato fritters, saucy seitan with portabella mushrooms, green beans, sweet potato bake, and a Greek salad with the most delicious chocolate desert I have ever had, with some wonderful coffee. Everything was rich and absolutely delicious.

Most of all, though, I had a great time talking with friends. We were all in a great mood--who wouldn't be, with delicious free food in front of them? Laughter and much jolliness were plentiful. Sloan was getting a little tipsy on the free wine. We left a large tip, since there was nothing else to pay for.

The evening left me feeling warm and happy.

Now, if these strange bumps would just go away, everything would be perfect.

Footnotes:

weather: Very windy, clear, and cold.

bookmarked: Some Ursula K, Le Guin short stories.

writing focus: Do you have any idea how tedious it is to copy paste copy paste copy paste for several hours in a row? The archived entries are going to take a little longer to convert than I first hoped... So that's where my focus has been, unfortunately.

observation: Because of the wind, today the trees lost nearly all of their leaves all at once. It was quite a drastic change.

cooking: Mmm! Morgan and I made guacamole and chili tonight to dip tortilla chips in. I love guacamole!

random: I'm so relieved! Grouse's dog Kira is recovering.

mood: relaxed

journal land:

"Just across from work, there is a church with one of those 'inspirational sayings' signs. They change fairly often, and they tend to be what you'd expect from a church- today's was, 'If you can't sleep at night, don't count sheep, think about the Shepherd!' However, the pastor of this church sometimes has a very poor grasp on what a good message is. Once, it sounded like a trailer for a slasher movie, inviting everyone to come 'Bathe in the blood of Christ!' (Their exclamation point.) The latest entry in bad idea slogans came yesterday. I file this both under the 'It must have sounded good at the time,' and 'Some people just don't get it' categories: 'Counter Terrorism Method: Spread an infectious faith in Jesus!' Oy."
