November 4, 2001 ~ Sunday Afternoon

I feel like staying up all night and writing straight through. And painting. I haven't painted in so long. And reading a long novel. And cooking... oh how I wish there were more hours in the day... that I required less sleep.

Ah! Why do Sunday afternoons do this to me? Sunday afternoon, when the weekend is winding down and it is time to work on homework, to finish the tasks that I had "all weekend left to do" just yesterday.

Yet Sunday afternoon is the time when I most want to curl up with a book that has nothing to do with my classes, to bake a cake, to hike through the woods, to lay in the sun, to dig up my art supplies, to sit with the laptop in the commons and create a new story. I am jealous with my time. There are times when I don't want to give any of it to my classes.

Footnotes:

weather: Clear, warm.

bookmarked: Catching up in the archives of an old favorite journal that I just rediscovered (see below).

writing focus: Revisions and writing two new bibliography annotations.

observation: Two hawks, low to the ground, circling.

mood: Restless.

journal land:

"I think the best advice about marriage I ever heard was from Ken. Ken has been through 3 divorces. Ken has now sworn to stay away from the altar, in spite of the fact I believe he has almost cinched what makes a marriage work. Years and years ago, soused on what must have been 10 beers, he had slurred to me, 'When a woman shinks she can shange a man? She'sh crazy! She crazy, Yosh! I telsh ya datsh the mosht shtupid shing to shink! And it'sh da shame with men! Don't shink you can shange a woman! If you can look at eash other at night and shink to yourself 'I can shpend the resht of my life with you and you don't have to shange one bit' then you've got shumtin' going!'"

~ I can't tell you how pleased I am to announce that Josh is back (he was there all along, but I lost track of him when he moved his site). You can now find him at Violent Cases. That quote is from his journal entry on October 12th.
