November 9, 2001 ~ New house? (!)

So what do you think? Morgan, Li, and I would be living in the left half of this duplex. We checked it out today.

The house is over 100 years old, in a nice little historic neighborhood called Montford, right off of downtown Asheville. Wood flooring, small front porch, pretty big backyard with a garden plot. Two bedrooms, a small bathroom, big kitchen (with a gas range) and small living room. No dishwasher (I hate dishwashers). Comes with a washer and dryer. All the wiring was just redone in the last few months. The foundation was recently redone too. It's just down the street from a park and our favorite bookstore in town (dangerous, I know). Short walk to all sorts of employment.

Rent every month is $565, so Morgan and I would be paying $282.50 a month. Not too bad. Utilities shouldn't be much more than $150.

There's only one problem. We'd have to start paying rent on November 15th in order to secure the place as ours. (Good Lord! The 15th... that's only six days away!) That's earlier than we had planned, but the place has such a low deposit that it shouldn't be a problem. Plus, then we'd be able to move out in a leisurely fashion, instead of one big rush during finals week (never a good idea).

So... we decide this weekend. We're pretty convinced, but we have to make sure that Lisa will be able to get her half of the deposit together by then.

Oh! We met one of the girls who lives in the other half of the duplex. She seemed nice. She was carrying a sewing machine inside. She smiled a lot and sounded very happy to find out that we were thinking about moving in.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited. It looks like a nice place. More than enough for our needs.
