March 4, 2004 ~ Color Bursts

Thursday.

a patch of crocuses today

A letter written this morning:

[My Friend] ~

Daffodils!! On the way to work. Most of them aren't blooming, save for this one little patch in the freeway median. Amazing.

And crocuses bursting open everywhere. And May apples! And dead nettle! And a tree covered in pink blossoms! And tiny white and blue flowers in the lawn! And the tulip greens, iris greens, and daffodil greens pushing up all around.

Bird song, everywhere. Rabbits all over the backfield.

And it's only 8:30 and already too warm for a coat!

My knee is almost completely healed. I am going to HIKE today. All over tarnation and back.

Oh, and Portland is now handing out same-sex marriage licenses! I'm so proud of my hometown.

I'm taking pictures like crazy. I'll have an entry so full of flowers and spring it'll make everyone sick to their stomach.

Morgan's still working insane hours, and I hardly see him, but last night I bought frozen raspberries from the co-op, took them home to thaw, and made a delicious raspberry crisp that I pulled out of the oven to surprise him with right before he came home at 12.

We stood in the kitchen and ate it and talked and laughed and loved, and these moments are just too precious to waste.

Feeling very alive. Thank you for being who you are and for caring as you do.

Much love and spring warmth to you,
Melissa
