May 2, 2005 ~ Hiking Dam Pasture with the Pack
Monday.
Some pictures from our hike yesterday.
Note upon upload: Some of the images were lost in (yet another) hard drive crash. What you see is what I could salvage.

The may apples are in boom. You can tell the female plants like those above not only because they have blooms for a few weeks in early May, but also because they have two umbrella leaves instead of one. See, female may apple:
And male, with no bloom and only one umbrella:
I don't know what species this guy is (I don't have a butterfly identification book), but he/she sure was pretty:
Same with this little beetle:
Anybody have any idea what this is? Big broad leaves, pretty flowers:
Spring woods, with dogwoods in bloom:
We climbed up and looked over the old dam:

Spring beauties are still in bloom:
As is golden ragwort:
Monty got in the way of several shots:
Once we reached the pasture, all Monty and Rose wanted to do was play in the tall grass:

And Morgan took Rose for a run. She leapt and bounded through the tall grass and had the time of her life (don't worry, she had a harness on, the leash wasn't pulling at her neck):
