December 2, 2006 ~ Snippets of Wolves
Saturday.
I was going through pictures of the sanctuary wolves and wolfdogs today and realized that there were tons from the last two years that I have yet to share. So... these are from March, 2005.
Sierra
Ashe
Sierra and Ashe were penmates, but they have since transferred to another sanctuary.
Maya
Maya has gone to a home. She is very sweet, but also very dominant. And with that red-tinted coat and yellow eyes, absolutely gorgeous.
Ralph
Ralph is still at the sanctuary (and still likes to bark, growl, and snap at anyone who gets close enough, but usually the two alphas of his pack who love people keep him in line).
Fang
Fang died not too long ago of cancer. He hated a lot of people, but he loved me (and would always beg for butt-scratchin's when I neared his pen). I miss him a lot.
Autumn
Autumn was Fang's longtime companion. She's now very lonely. And her old habit of suddenly deciding she doesn't like someone and snarling and snapping at them has only become worse as a result. She's always been nice to me, but I've always been very cautious around her.

Mamma
While I was taking pictures of Ralph, Smiley, and Pretty Girl, Mamma was barking incessantly at me the entire time from the pen behind me. Exasperated, I finally whirled around and glared at her. She glared right back with her patented "I hate you" look, and I snapped this shot.
She had always had a reputation as being mean and hating people, but she has actually calmed down a lot in the last year since we finally got her and Daunk's bigger pen built. She even politely sniffed my hand one of the last times I was out there. If Mamma can come around and be civil to people, than any of our "problem" animals can. Momma gives me a lot of hope.
