February 4, 2007 ~ Uninhibited
Sunday.
(Grove, February 4, "In the Life")
Weekends are Grove's favorite days. Daddy's home, and the dogs are more active because the whole pack is together.
Yesterday, and again today, he spent several hours in a row simply ecstatic about life. When he's bursting with joy, he has a special crawl that's a fast gallop with a whole lot of bouncing and slapping the floor with his hands just for the love of hearing his hands slap.
He kept galloping to me with a huge grin on his face, then he'd crawl in circles at my feet saying "Hi! Hi! Hey!" and giggling until he'd fall over. Then he'd get up, bounce and walk and dance in rhythm to the music we had playing. Then he'd drop to the floor and gallop over to Daddy, and do it to him, his whole body involved in the task of expressing his happiness.
Babies and many animals both, they show their emotions with their entire body and soul. We lose that uninhibited movement as we grow older. And it's unfortunate that we do, because his joy is so infectious. It makes everyone around him happy. One of our friends, upon meeting Grove, laughed and commented, "What if I went around greeting people with a huge open-mouthed grin and a full-body wiggle? People would think that I was a freak and run away! But it's sweet when he does it. That's not fair."
And it's true. There's very little that I could do to make another person as happy as Grove makes us simply by being happy and expressing it uninhibited. When he's happy, he wants everyone around him to be happy too.
