February 11th, "In the Life": Mani, Wolf Rescue

Today was the board meeting out at the wolf and wolfdog rescue. Before hand, I walked around saying hello to all of my friends.

Mani and Marion gave the best cuddles of the day. Both came straight up to me, nuzzled my hands and kissed my face. I love those two so very much.

Mani is a very high-content wolfdog who came from the same Sanctuary that Monty did, though he arrived at our facility much later on. He's a very powerful and initially intimidating animal, but really he's a big goofball at heart. He can be difficult and possessive if you're trying to clean his water bucket or feeding him and Marion, but otherwise he mostly just wants to lick you all over and play. He's one of the most well-adjusted high-contents I've ever known (though KK and Yeddy also rank pretty high).

Somewhere in her travels before she came to our Sanctuary, Marion lost her right eye. We had the mess left in that socket removed and sewed the eye up.

You wouldn't know it, but Marion is actually quite famous. A little over a year ago, the local news was in a frenzy over the "ESCAPED WOLF!" who was "terrorizing" the populace of Marion County. Until then, I was unaware that "terrorizing" could be defined as "running away at the first sign of humans" or that "wolf" was the same as "mid-content wolfdog," but I'm not a journalist, so what do I know? Oh, and of course, as the story became more and more blown out of proportion by a bunch of "eye witnesses" scared to death of the big bad wolf, this one mid-content wolfdog became a "PACK OF WOLVES!" on a bloody rampage of "almost" attacking numerous children and neighborhood dogs.

Um, yeah. Vicious killer, all right. She "attacked" me this afternoon with kisses all over my face, and then politely asked for some good scritchin's. I love Marion. Such a sweet, good natured lady.

And one last bonus shot of Mystic, who started off a Sanctuary-wide howl:
